Latin American History
The author of this brief response has been asked to answer to a specific question. A series of five events or topics are listed and the author of this report is to rank them with the proper context and prism being the assigned readings applicable to this assignment, and nothing beyond that. The works in question include The Onset of the Wars for Independence, Inheritance and The Jamaica Letter. The five things to be ranked are the tensions between the Creoles and the Europeans, racism, the French Revolution, the misery of the slaves and the wretched condition of the slaves. While all five of the items covered and that are to be ranked are significant, there are two that stand out above the rest.
Analysis
The author of this report can easily group the five items into three basic groups. Racism and the tensions between white people and Creoles are much of the same area. Similarly, the misery of the slaves and the wretched conditions of the indigenous people are very linked together. Beyond that, the French Revolution sort of stands on its own because it was the catalyst and inspiration from one group to another. Indeed, the French Revolution was very much about people being fed up with the ruling class having their way and only their way. However, many "liberated" people are in horrible conditions and settings even though they have supposedly been brought to better standing than they once were. With all of that said, the biggest and most significant of these five items covered in this report would be the French Revolution. This mapped the way for many Latin American countries to move forward with their own movements, albeit with mixed results. The last four items, respectively, as it pertains to Latin America would be the wretched conditions of the indigenous people, the misery of the slaves, tensions between creoles and Europeans and racism in general. Both of those were a driving force in the liberation of Latin America given that the Europeans came over and subjugated and otherwise enslaved the peoples that were already in the Latin America sphere. While general tension and racism were quite bad, the way that indigenous people were treated starting with Columbus and his arrival in 1492 is nothing short of horrific.
As for how the required sources for this assignment buttress this argument, the author will use snippets and ideas from each source one at a time. As noted with the reference to Columbus, the Spanish and Portuguese were the early members of the proverbial party when it came to the colonization and harvesting of the Latin American region.
